Overview from the petition page: “In the spring of 2009, a twelve-year-old girl in Republic, Missouri was raped. When she reported it, the schools put her through ‘multiple intimidating interrogations,’ until she took back the claim. Stunningly, they then forced her to write a letter of apology to her rapist. She was then expelled for the rest of the year.

If that wasn’t enough, she was later raped again by the same boy, in February of 2010. This time, she and her mother reported the crime to the police, and the rapist was identified by his semen. He plead guilt in juvenile court. This, however, was not enough for the school; the punishment for the girl was more severe— she was suspended for the rest of the year once again, on the charges of ‘Disrespectful Conduct’ and ‘Public Display of Affection’.

She is now seeking lawsuit against the school, requesting damages for medical expenses, emotional distress, and attorneys’ fees, in addition to ‘punitive damages to deter School Officials and others from similar conduct in the future.’ The school, however, still denies all charges, and even has the gall to put up a public statement reminding people that ‘it is important to remember that the allegations in a lawsuit are just that – allegations.’”
